Canon's PIXMA MP750 and MP780 MFDs offer a printer, copier, scanner and fax with advanced photo quality. Aimed at home office and small office users, they include PictBridge, fax1, ADF, CD/DVD, auto duplex, paper cassette and high-speed USB 2.0. The Lexmark X7170 all-in-one printer is aimed at the SMB market. The multifunction device offers faxing, scanning, printing and copying capabilities with a complete document management solution built-in with the addition of the Lexmark Productivity Suite software. Users can create multiple page portable document files (PDFs) - from a variety of formats - into a single document for storage and distribution; convert hard copy pages into text files that can be edited and scanned-to-email via Lexmark Optical Character Recognition program; and use thumbnail images and drag-and-drop functionality to print, fax, email, convert to another format or archive any document with just a few keystrokes. Consumers can also upload images from PictBridge-enabled cameras to edit, organise and print high-definition colour photos. The X7170 features a flatbed scanner - 1200 x 4800 dots per inch (dpi) resolution - with 48-bit colour depth and CCD technology that can scan photos, reports and even three-dimensional objects. The Epson Stylus Photo RX630 all-in-one home photo centre features PC free photo printing, scanning and copying for the semi professional photographer and has a 61mm colour LCD preview monitor for standalone operating. A six colour ink set uses Epson's HQ3 photo enhanced dye ink to produce borderless photos with up to 5760 x 1440 optimised dpi using RPM Technology. This model also has a high definition 2400 x 4800dpi matrix CCD scanner with built-in transparency unit for positive and negative scanning and is capable of producing prints directly from film without a PC. Other PC-free options on the RX630 include direct printing from PictBridge compatible digital cameras and other USB devices. The device caters for all memory card formats using the built-in card reader. The Epson RX630 also has an optional Bluetooth pack for remote printing from compatible cameras and mobile phones. Next month, Ricoh will launch the AF3200 Series multifunction printers that are said to feature new levels of security, speed and quality. While each of the MFDs is designed to bring affordable black and white and colour solutions to the market, the fastest in the pack is the Aficio 3245C, according to Ricoh. Ideal for workgroups and small departments, the output of the fully featured A3 MFD is 35ppm in colour and 45ppm in black and white. New polymerised superfine toner provides improved image resolution and consistent quality. Print, copy and scan capabilities are standard with paper trays, fax and finishing functions optional.
