Announced overseas in early February, MessageLabs has launched its email archiving service product locally.
Sold by resellers as a service, it allows users to search email via a Web interface or within Microsoft Outlook. It is compatible with servers running Microsoft's Active Directory.
MessageLabs Asia-Pacific vice-president, James Scollay, said the company was suggesting a monthly charge of about $20 per user. However, resellers made up almost 90 per cent of the local MessageLabs sales force and could set their own price.
The suggested pricing is at a premium, with the company recommending a much lower monthly charge of $5 per user for its traditional antivirus/anti-spam email product.
The vendor currently has about 12 local partners including Verizon and Dimension Data.
Scollay said it would recruit more resellers this year but was more interested in quality than quantity.
Telcos, ISPs and tier-two integrators were all on the radar, although Scollay estimated the total number of partners was unlikely to top 20 by year's end.
