Symantec unifies channel programs

Symantec has shifted about 1000 local partners to a new partner program in a bid to unify its channel.

Director of Pacific Region channel sales, David Blackman, said the worldwide program and Partnernet portal replaced more than 20 programs and eight sites. Partners are now categorised into four types: channel; service and consulting; technology and platform; and global strategic services. New incentives are on offer for partners to train staff, market and specialise in Symantec offerings. The extranet site also contains a learning centre, marketing materials and competitive information.

Partners have also been ranked, based on past performances, and placed into one of four membership levels - platinum, gold, silver and registered. All were informed of the move via email.

Blackman said the program was partly a response to feedback it had been gathering from partners prior to the acquisition of Veritas last July. He would not comment on the company's long-term plans for the Veritas brand.

Alongside its online offering, Symantec had just completed a roadshow for more than 600 A/NZ partners, and was looking at another, tentatively scheduled for August.
