Communications distributor, Brightpoint Australia, has partnered with European Consulting and Consumer Business (ECCB) to take on its range of Skype certified IP handsets.
Brightpoint product marketing manager, Ettore Alterisio, said the deal was part of a global initiative to bolster its position within the Skype and VoIP market sectors.
"Our focus has been on driving growth in our emerging product sets and one of them is Internet-enabled products," he said. "This is an exclusive deal in Australia and really shows the strength of our relationship with ECCB on a global scale."
Brightpoint signed a distribution deal with Skype in November last year, and will be bundling the Simply Phones handset range with Skype starter kits, including Skype talk time and software.
Alterisio said he planned to extend its product portfolio as the vendor introduced more Internet-related products to the fold.
The SMB and retail sectors were the ideal candidates for the range.
Alterisio said he was also interested in bringing on more resellers looking to offer Internet-based solutions.
"A lot of consumers buying Internet-based products are starting to become comfortable with the technology," he said. "This makes mass retail an obvious target for us. Part of our role for ECCB in Australia is to develop the channel for them and we have started offering the range to our existing partners, where we are getting some good traction."
