IBM ThinkPad T series

IBM has launched new models of its ThinkPad T series notebook computers, including models with the first 15-inch displays for the series. According to the company, the models provide increased flexibility and comfort with larger, brighter and higher resolution screens. Select models of the 15-inch ThinkPad T42 and T42p come with Flexview technology, offering 170-degree viewing angles in all directions. The ThinkPad T42 and T42p will be available with Intel Pentium M processor 735 and 755 technology featuring 2MB of L2 cache, as well as the Intel Pentium M 1.5GHz processor with 1MB of L2 cache. ThinkPad T42p will offer Intel’s M Processor 755, 128MB ATIMobility FireGL, T2 Graphics and OpenGL support, Flexview technology, SXGA+ (1400 x 1050) or UXGA (1600 x1200) resolution, Multiburner, 802.11 a/b/g, Bluetooth and the entire portfolio of IBM ThinkVantage technologies. These include IBM’s Embedded Security Subsystem, an integrated security chip and downloadable software to product a company’s data, secure passwords and guard against unauthorised user access. The product is distributed in Australia by select IBM business partners.

Optima Prolite K

Optima is offering the Prolite K Series of notebooks, which weigh 1.9kg including an internal optical disk drive and standard travel battery. This notebook features Intel Centrino mobile technology, enabling users to access the Internet, email and corporate resources from remote locations, according to the company. A 12.1-inch widescreen liquid crystal display provides panoramic viewing that is ideal for digital content creation, watching DVDs and working on large documents. A travel battery provides about two hours of continuous use, while an optional larger 8-cell Li-Ion battery pack runs for up to four hours. The product is distributed direct to resellers by Optima.

RRP: The standard Prolite K Series, with an internal DVD/CDRW Combo drive, is available for $2999. A second version of this model that features a DVD burner, capable of burning both CDs and DVDs, sells for $3499

HP Compaq Business Notebook nx9110

HP has released the HP Compaq Business Notebook nx9110 targeted at SMBs. It is a space saving, high-performance notebook with widescreen panels (which offer a compact alternative to CRT monitors), a removable HP USB Digital Drive and wireless capability, according to the company. It offers Mobile Pentium 4 processors and Microsoft Windows XP Professional or Home for improved productivity. The notebook also features a 5-in-1 Media Reader and a removable HP USB Digital drive, three USB 2.0 ports and IEEE 1394 connect quickly to external devices and simplify the sharing of large files. The product has integrated 802.11b wireless LAN and Bluetooth. Contact HP for distributors.

Tadpole Talin

Tadpole has released a line of Talin notebooks which offer Sun’s open source desktop software, the Java Desktop System (JDS). The Talin is the first fully supported Linux platform notebook family offering enterprises a tightly integrated and tuned environment that will lower business costs. Running SuSE Linux and Sun Java Desktop System on a 2.4 GHz Pentium 4 processor, the Notebook comes pre-installed with Star Office from Sun Microsystems, Ximian Evolution and Mozilla. It is distributed by Alstom IT.

Fujitsu LifeBook S7010

Fujitsu PC Australia has released the LifeBook S7010. With a 14-inch size screen and weighing less than 2kg, the target market is business professionals who want to have a better working platform, but do not want to sacrifice portability, performance, and quality — all based on the Intel Centrino chip. The LifeBook is distributed in Australia by Ingram Micro Australia and Westan Australia.

RRP: Pricing starts from $3499, with the high-end at $4499, featuring DVD Super Multi drive (compatible with DVD-R/RW, DVD+R/RW, and DVD-RAM), and Bluetooth 1.2.

TodayTech M375E

TodayTech’s M375E notebook features Intel Centrino Mobile Technology with Intel 855PM Chipset, Intel Pro Wireless Network Connection, and Intel Pentium M Processor. The product has a dedicated 64Mb Graphics (GPU) ATi Mobility Radeon 9600 Pro Graphics Accelerator and 15.4-inch WSXGA+ screen panel (max res. 1680x1050). The M375E offers wireless LAN (54Mbps, 802.11g), Gigabit Ethernet LAN (10/100/1000) and 56K modem. The unit has integrated CMOS PC camera, DVD-RW and +RW optical drive, Card Reader 3-in-1 (MMC/SD/MS), Serial port, Infrared, and memory support of up to 2GB DDR. M375E barebone units are available at TodayTech. The product is distributed by TodayTech direct to resellers.

Protac EXCEL D490

Protac has released the Excel D490 notebook which features an Intel Pentium 4 processor with HT Technology 3.2GHz. It also offers 128MB ATI Mobility Radeon 9600 Graphic Accelerator and a 17-inch TFT WXGA display. The D490 has DVD playback and a built-in 6-in-1 card reader offering digital storage assistance. The product is aimed at consumers who want to play high-end games, or mobile users looking for a mobile communication centre with built-in modem or optional WLN card. It is distributed by Protac.

RRP: Starts from $2449 when equipped with Celeron 2.6Ghz, a DVD/CDRW Combo drive, 256MB DDR memory, 30GB HDD and Windows XP Home Edition.

Pioneer 805 CentriNote Book

Pioneer Computers Australia has released the 805 CentriNote Book, featuring 15.4-inch widescreen, ATI 64M 9600 VGA, and three USB 2.0 ports. Notebook specifications include: Pentium M 1.5G/1.7G/1.8G processor, 30GB/40GB/60GB/80GB Hard Disk Drive, 256MB/512MB/1024MB DDR RAM, 24x CD ROM/CDRW and DVD/DVDRW, 10/100M LAN, 56K modem, 802.11b wireless module (optional), mini firewire port, TV out, SB Pro Compatible with S/PDIF Output, microphone-in jack, Windows XP Home, bonus Word Perfect Office. The product is available from Pioneer.

Hallmark NVP05

Hallmark Computer has introduced the Viewmaster Portiva NVP05 wireless notebook with Centrino mobile technology. The notebook features the Intel Pentium M Processor 1.5-1.7GHz, Intel 855GM chipset, 15-inch TFT XGA colour screen, 256MB-2GB RAM, and 40GB-80GB HDD. The Viewmaster Portiva NVP05 also comes with a DVD/CD-RW Combo drive (option to upgrade to DVD burner), a built-in wireless LAN featuring Intel Pro 802.11g wireless card, 56K modem, Ethernet 10/100 port, serial and parallel ports. It also comes with Windows XP Home pre-installed (option to upgrade to XP Pro). The product is distributed by Hallmark.

Asus W1N

Responding to the digital home convergence, the ASUS has rolled out the W1N which offers a built-in TV tuner plus a subwoofer and a 16:10 wide screen display. The ASUS W1N also comes with a remote control that fits inside the PCMCIA card when not in use. Mated with the subwoofer with a 4.1 channel surround sound support, the W1N is ideal for users who require audio in their notebooks. It also has an LCM display on the chassis to show TV channel status, CD tracks, volume, DVD scene numbers and more. The 16:10 widescreen is another feature to complement the multimedia features of the W1N. The product is distributed by Ingram Micro and Cassa.
