Express Data's Victorian state chief, Mal Shaw, has been promoted to national general sales manager. He replaces former sales director, Ian Jansen, who left the distributor in December.
Shaw has eight years' experience with Express Data, and spent the last four heading up its Melbourne branch. Boasting a reseller background with local integrator, BCA, he was originally hired by ED as a business development manager. Shaw will continue to be based in Melbourne.
Managing director, Ross Cochrane, said Shaw had an invaluable understanding of ED's business through his experience as branch manager in both Sydney and Melbourne. Nevertheless, the company also evaluated external candidates before making its decision.
"We wanted to make sure we made the right appointment," Cochrane said. "We had good internal people but we went through the process of what our requirements were and worked through it that way." He said Shaw's first tasks would be to gain a stronger understanding of its broader national strategies, as well as to work closely with vendors on product marketing and placement.
As previously reported in ARN, Jansen opted to leave his post three months ago. He had been with the company for 11 years, initially heading up its operations in New Zealand. According to Cochrane, Jansen had left to investigate opportunities outside of distribution.
ED was now looking to appoint a new Victorian branch manager to replace Shaw. Several internal staff were currently being considered, he said.
