Sydney-based Attain IT has appointed five new specialists as part of an effort to enhance its Java development practice.
Managing director, Philip Parton, said Java development now accounted for up to half of its business and would continue to grow.
"As the economy has picked up, we've seen the services side of our business take off and most of our future growth will be there," he said. "Java development is growing significantly now the industry has heard the hype and is taking a practical approach to the technology."
The development team also works on customised Oracle solutions.
Most senior of the five new appointments is IT veteran, George O'Neil, who has taken a senior project manager role. He has more than 20 years' industry experience with Bearing Point, QSP Systems, Deloitte Consulting and Oracle.
Parton said Attain's immediate goal was to grow in the mid-market.
"Following these appointments, we really want to build up a solid mid-tier services company," he said. "There's still ample room in the industry because of individual requirements that need to be fulfilled.
"All those companies are looking for a smaller IT partner they can trust."
Attain IT currently employs about 30 staff.
