Backup software vendor, StorageCraft, has entered the local market to butt heads with industry heavyweights like EMC and Symantec. Sydney-based RealTime Storage Solutions, which is currently acting as an agent for the vendor, hopes to become a local subsidiary.
RealTime is launching the brand in Australia with a technician's license of its ShadowProtect IT Edition backup software. Initially, it is looking for resellers with technicians on staff that are interested in providing a server backup service to customers.
Wyman said regular server and desktop editions of the software would follow in June.
He hoped resellers using the technician's license would eventually become his default sales force.
Wyman refuted suggestions that selling versions of the software would remove the opportunity for resellers to provide backup services.
While customers might elect to take control of their own mission critical servers with StorageCraft software, there would always be non mission-critical servers that also needed backup, he said.
