Express Data escalates Check Point row

Express Data has announced it will no longer carry Check Point products in New Zealand. The news leaves the security vendor without a distributor in that market.

ED took the decision after its Australian contract with Check Point was terminated earlier this week. The two companies had worked together for 10 years.

"Express Data has seen dynamic growth from security vendors such as Cisco and Symantec that concentrate on end-to-end solutions," a spokesperson for the distributor said in a prepared statement. "We believe additional focus on leading brands will bring rewards to our partners.

"The decision to disengage with Check Point was logical considering our strategy and where the market is headed."

Check Point country manager for A/NZ, Scott McKinnel, was not surprised by the announcement.

"We thought ED might feel pressured following our Australian decision," he said. "LAN Systems already has a small presence in New Zealand and we will help them become further established in that market."
