Accessories distributor, Powermove, has attributed massive bottom line improvement to the recent boom in iPod accessory sales as a flood of product hits the market.
Managing director, Phillip Warren, said it had seen a 500 per cent increase in total sales over the Christmas quarter compared to the same period last year. In addition to iPod accessories, the distributor stocks other accessories including cases, hard-drive enclosures and chargers.
Although its vendor stable had remained the same, all had released a plethora of new gadgets for iPod players including cases, cables, speaker systems, chargers and radio transmitters, Warren said.
Its current partner line-up includes Griffin, Xtreme Mac, Gecko and Elgato.
"Most retailers are now taking iPod accessories as a new revenue opportunity," he said. "Last year we had a few mass merchants with the products, but now everyone from Myer to Big W has picked them up."
Citing Apple's own projections that iPod sales would increase well into 2007, Warren said he anticipated related accessories would continue to be hot sellers this year as more people looked to integrate the iPod into a digital home environment.
"Those products that can connect into the home environment, such as speaker systems, will explode," he said.
