New Australian magazine dedicated to mobile phone technology launches

<p>Melbourne, 8 July 2004 – MobileXP, a free monthly magazine solely focused on mobile phone technology launches nationally today. The team behind the title claims there is nothing else like it on the market because: it’s just about mobiles; it’s written for consumers (not the industry); and all the content is local. The colour, glossy 48-pager is distributed through retailers including Harvey Norman, Australia Post and Dick Smith. An additional 8,500 mobile phone and consumer electronics vendors will also receive stock of the magazine.</p>
<p>Twenty-four year old technophile and entrepreneur, Steven Lim, Managing Editor for MobileXP said, “We expect the readership to be 150,000. The target audience is consumers. Our readers break down into people who love mobile phones; those researching plans, phones and services; and we also expect industry sales people to use it as a reference tool for customer service.</p>
<p>“The coolest thing about the magazine is its content. It lets readers know what’s coming soon, what’s available now and how each handset and plan stacks up against others on offer. Through the magazine we hope to create more informed mobile phone consumers in Australia,” Steven Lim said.</p>
<p>According to the magazine’s production and editorial team there are 14 million mobile phone subscribers in Australia. That’s 65% of Australians, but there aren't any magazines that purely focus on mobile technology. Marketing Director, Rory O’Keeffe said, “Everyone's got one ringing and beeping in their pockets, pants and bags but there's nothing enjoyable, informative, independent and comprehensive to read about them.</p>
<p>“We believe the number of handsets and enhancements on the market, combined with the convergence of technologies in the telco, entertainment and IT domains has created a more confused but at the same time a more sophisticated market. Our magazine appeals to both types - those who are not sure and those who are right on top of it all,” Rory O’Keeffe said.</p>
<p>With telecommunications segment revenues estimated to be worth more than AUD3.28 billion the MobileXP team expect to attract Telstra, Optus, Vodafone and Hutchison and all major handset manufacturers as advertisers.</p>
