SonicWall's purchase of email security specialist, MailFrontier, earlier this month will allow the company to scale the MailFrontier's appliance and software-based offerings and make them available to a far broader Australian channel and customer base.
Regional manager for SonicWall A/NZ, Chris Barton, said it was committed to a pure channel focus. The combined company would continue to maintain this focus.
"MailFrontier has previously had little exposure, if any, to the Australian channel, so this move creates a new opportunity for our resellers here," he said. "It has about 100 channel partners, while SonicWall's worldwide channel partner base is about 12,000."
MailFrontier sells software and appliances that filter email for phishing attempts, viruses and spam.
"The market for software-based email security solutions is twice the size of the appliance-only segment according to IDC," Barton said. "This enables our channel to participate in a much larger market by providing appliance, software and partner-managed solutions."
Barton said both companies' business models reflect the importance of recurring-revenue services delivered in an appliance form factor. The major difference was that MailFrontier brings an added option of delivering the email security solution in a software-only model, which SonicWall would continue to develop and deliver.
SonicWall products are distributed locally through itX, ACA Pacific, Lan 1 and Ingram Micro.
