Novell Wins $9.5 Million Rosetta Project Contract

 • 07 July, 2004 13:58

Novell today announced it has won a multi-million dollar contract to run the Bracks Government’s Rosetta initiative – a project that will provide provisioning and identity management services for the Victorian Government. With an identity management foundation in place the government will be able to deliver services and information online and more effectively communicate with its citizens.

Asia Pacific President of Novell, Rhonda O’Donnell, said she was delighted with the decision as it further confirms Novell’s position as the global market leader in secure identity management solutions.

“This contract was won ahead of many other contenders and adds to a number of recent successes, which reinforces Novell’s positioning in Asia Pacific as the market leader in secure identity management.”

The decision is the result of an exhaustive 18-month tender process, which is recognised by the industry as the most detailed and thorough analysis of identity management solutions on the market. For this reason many large organisations that have been looking at solutions in this space, have been monitoring this tender and eagerly awaiting the outcome.

Minister for Information and Communication Technology, Marsha Thomson, said Novell was short-listed for the new online directory infrastructure in March and the company will design, develop, implement and support the project over five years at a cost of approximately $9.5 million.

“Novell will help position Victoria as a global eGovernment leader by establishing the foundations of fully connected government,” Ms Thomson said.

“Project Rosetta will establish an integrated and automated directory service that will allow the secure provision of accurate information on people, resources, assets and services across the whole of the Victorian Government,” said Ms Thomson.

The contract was won in partnership with Deloitte. Head of Enterprise Risk Services at Deloitte, John Trotter, said Novell and Deloitte have delivered a number of highly successful secure identity management engagements around the world, and the Company is looking forward to successfully delivering Project Rosetta.

Work will commence in August with the directory infrastructure being rolled out across the Government in stages over the next five years.

The contract also includes a whole-of-government buying agreement for other Victorian Government agencies not included in the initial project.

“We applaud the Victorian Government for its vision and foresight in implementing an infrastructure that will enable it to effectively and efficiently deliver services and communicate with its citizens online,” said Ms O’Donnell.
