Firewall Systems has opened a new office in Brisbane six months ahead of schedule, and has plans to step into Auckland and Perth by the end of the year.
Marketing director, Nick Verykios, said the security distributor's customers in Queensland had justified the costs of establishing a branch in that state. At present, it accounted for 17 per cent of Firewall's total business, he said. The team has hired former Tech Pacific and LAN Systems face, Leanne James, to head up the office.
"It's earlier than expected," he said. "But we are working with larger integrators so we needed a local person to service that.
"Leanne is well connected in the Brisbane and regional Queensland market and respected among the reseller and vendor community. She's also a terrific person that is used to extremely fast growth and what that means in relation to servicing customers and helping them expand their own businesses through emerging technologies."
As well as servicing existing partners, James would be tasked with developing new relationships with second tier resellers, Verykios said. Vendor partners were also looking to grow their presence in Queensland, making it an opportune time to set up shop there, he said. Its stable includes Trend Micro, Exinda, Resilience and Check Point.
Although James would initially be working alone, Firewall was aiming to have three engineers and sales support staff installed within 12 months.
Firewall expected to triple and possibly quadruple its Queensland sales during the next few months, Verykios said. The distributor already worked with 20 Queensland-based resellers.
Once Brisbane was underway, it would set its sights on establishing similar branches in Perth and New Zealand. Verykios said it was already interviewing for an Auckland branch manager.
