Melbourne-based hardware distributor, Multimedia Technology (MMT), is bringing its product expo to Sydney.
Company director, John Hassall, said he was keen to invest more into the NSW market and cement its dealer network in the state.
"We have been working a lot of large corporate resellers like Volante and Fujitsu. The more we see them and do business together, the more they want to know about us," he said.
Vendors were also encouraging MMT to find new opportunities and initiatives, Hassall said.
The expo would promote products from a range of high-profile vendors including Panasonic, BenQ, Sony, Linksys and Lexmark. It will be held at the Stamford Plaza hotel in North Sydney on March 2. The expo was first held in Melbourne last August.
MMT has operated in Melbourne for the past 15 years, opening its office in Sydney two years ago.
Hassall said its Melbourne sales were currently at least double those recorded in Sydney.
"I believe there is scope to do a lot more business in Sydney," he said. "A lot of people don't know us, or don't know us that well."
About 800 dealers registered for the Melbourne expo. Hassall said he was expecting about 500 in Sydney.
While the overall format of the event would be the same, he said it would introduce a series of one-hour product information sessions in conjunction with some vendors. One session would focus on Panasonic's ruggedised Toughbooks.
MMT will hold another Victorian expo later this year. But it has no current plans for an event in Brisbane, despite recently purchasing a warehouse in the Queensland capital.
"The challenge for us is to learn how to manage inventory and move stock from Melbourne to Brisbane," Hassall said. "We need to work with local customers to take stock from our Brisbane warehouse. That's our focus there for the next six months."
