IT security distributor, Unixpac, has struck up a partnership with enterprise search appliance manufacturer, Index Engines.
Unixpac managing director, Tom Piotrowski, said the deal extended a link back to the distributor's roots.
"Our company was founded on backup and restore products," he said. "Seventeen years ago, our flagship product was Legato Networker, which is now owned by EMC.
"There is also a lot of synergy between the Index Engines appliance and our other products. We see many customers wanting to simplify their networks into easily identified modules."
Unixpac also distributes appliances from IronPort for email security, Tipping Point for intrusion prevention and the Adonis DNS appliance from BlueCat Networks.
Piotrowski said resellers would require little to no training to sell the product because it was essentially a plug and play device.
"It takes about five minutes to install," he said. "The first time you run your backup stream, it starts working. "Once that happens, it's the equivalent of searching for files, just like on Google."
Piotrowski said it could be bundled with other appliances.
According to statistics provided by Unixpac, unstructured files - such as the ones indexed by the Index Engines appliance - represent more than 80 per cent of all data in the enterprise.
