Xbox 360 Delayed

The much-anticipated launch of Microsoft's Xbox 360 console has been delayed.

Initially projected for a March 2 release date, Microsoft today issued a statement that it will now be launched at 12:01am on March 23.

Microsoft's statement - citing "challenges in ramping supply" and a "short term manufacturing challenge" - concurred with recent industry rumours that retail outlets weren't going to receive adequate supply of the unit by the original launch date.

A Microsoft spokesperson also told ARN that industry speculation regarding a second factory being been brought online to produce additional Xbox 360's in order to meet the new March 23 deadline, was incorrect.

In actual fact, a third factory - Celestica - has been brought into the fold to begin producing units. Like the previous two factories, Celestica is based in China.

Xbox 360 was released in North America, Europe and Japan in late 2005. Microsoft statistics suggest it remains on track to meet a year-end forecast of shipping between 4.5 million and 5.5 million consoles worldwide by June 30.
