Getronics checks in on Queensland health

Getronics has picked up a sole supplier deal with Queensland Health to provide Cisco networking maintenance and support services at Queensland Health for the next three years.

In signing a Standing Offer Arrangement with Queensland Health, the ICT solutions provider is now cleared to provide data communications equipment, services and support to more than 350 locations across the state. But Getronics' national services marketing manager, Collin Duff-Tytler, wouldn't be drawn on the potential value of the arrangement.

"It is hard to put a value on it at this time," he said. "What we have done so far is secure the position. Money hasn't changed hands yet but we're the preferred supplier and that's a huge opportunity for us."

The agreement is part of a five-year Queensland Health initiative to upgrade the IT infrastructure underpinning the Queensland public health system. Initial open tender requests were made in January 2005. The Getronics deal also includes two further 12-month option clauses.

Duff-Tytler said Getronics' Brisbane office had been cultivating a relationship with Queensland Health for some time before being offered the Standing Offer Arrangement and replacing the incumbent supplier.

"We identified Queensland Health as a major prospect more than three years ago," he said. "In that time there has been a lot of meetings with people and we have been taking time to understand what makes them tick.

"It was this understanding that eventually got us across the line. We have a good cultural fit."
