Robinson switches desks

Just one month after launching the Yellow Machine storage appliance through importer, Austeq, John Robinson has swapped desks to set up the Australian operation of the product's US parent, Anthology Solutions.

He will run its sales and marketing efforts as A/NZ country manager. Robinson said he decided to apply for the posting after being notified of the company's ambitions to set up a local sales branch. Prior to his position with Austeq, Robinson was country manager for AMD.

"The change [to Anthology] gives me a better position to develop the business," he said. "I'm free to choose channel partners and expand more rapidly as well as develop the business name."

As previously reported in ARN, the Yellow Machine device comes with up to 1.6TB of storage, an ASIC processing unit, Linux operating system, eight-port router and LAN and Internet connectivity. The local operation would continue to work with Austeq at a reseller level to promote its range of applications for the Yellow Machine, Robinson said. These included functions like video-on-demand, call centre recording and watermarking, document archival and surveillance capabilities.

Anthology's plans for a local channel model were unchanged to those devised at Austeq, he said. The company wanted to establish a distributor and traditional IT reseller base, as well as appoint vertical partners in areas like hospitality, security and education.

Anthology had verified Web hosting and direct marketing organisation, Cradle Technologies, as its first distributor.

Robinson said he was now looking for an IT wholesaler to supply a reseller base. Its distribution partners would be responsible for fulfillment, as well as supporting warranty and support queries, he said.

The vendor would also support the business with a 24x7 call centre as take-up of the product increased.

Robinson said it would initially focus on the base P400T Yellow Machine, which was targeted at the SMB and SoHo market.

Anthology would release models for the enterprise market - as well as a cut down version of the appliance - next year.
