VoIP service provider, Broadband Phone, has announced a new wholesale package for local ISPs in conjunction with networking vendor, Netgear.
Broadband Phone director, Miranda Wong, said the new offering was designed to give smaller and regionally-based ISPs an easier way of delivering VoIP to data customers.
"Currently, Australian ISPs are working on tight margins, especially when they are only focused on supplying data services," she said.
"They will be squeezed more as more retail products come out for VoIP.
"But it can be difficult to invest in developing your own VoIP offering and getting the attention of the telcos. ISPs can now use our infrastructure to provide a service."
Broadband Phone has released an initial trial wholesale pack, which includes two Netgear TA612V broadband voice adapters, 10 soft phone lines, two phone numbers and $100 worth of prepaid credit.
"We put the trial pack together to make it easy for ISPs to try the service," Wong said.
"However, they can also select what features they want to offer."
For example, ISPs had the choice of devising their own service charges as well as offering a range of customised features and tools including free IP-to-IP calls, or pre- or post-paid call structures, she said.
Broadband Phone would also be providing ISPs with access to a Web-based provisioning system to allow providers to manage accounts, order or cancel phone numbers, or check customer details.
ISPs could choose to link to the network operator's database via their own front-end customer interface.
All services, including invoicing, could be rebranded.
Broadband Phone was now working on developing a similar type of offering with an unspecified vendor for the business market, Wong said.
This was expected to be launched in the first quarter of next year.
It was also planning to bring out several new managed service offerings for its wholesale customers, she said.
