3Com this week appointed Bruce Claflin, a former Digital executive, as president and chief operating officer (COO).
Assuming the newly-created positions on August 10, Claflin will oversee 3Com's worldwide operations of its networking business, valued at $US5.4 billion, according to a company statement. Specifically, Claflin will be responsible for the sales and marketing of the company's Large Enterprise, Small-to-Medium-Enterprise, Carrier Systems and Client Access business units.
3Com has restructured its customer markets, creating the need for an additional executive to drive cross divisional initiatives and focus internal and external relations, 3Com Chairman and CEO Eric Benhamou said.
Claflin will report directly to Benhamou.
3Com had kept its executive management team at the same size since its merger with US Robotics in June 1997, which doubled the number of employees and increased revenue by 78 per cent, the company said.
Claflin served as senior vice president and group executive of worldwide sales and marketing at Digital, where he previously held the position of vice president and general manager of the company's personal computer business unit.
