RSA management gets an overhaul

RSA Security has recruited former iPass MD, Steve Terry, as its new A/NZ sales director following the departure of Asia-Pacific vice-president, Sebastian Moore.

The security vendor has also installed a new marketing manager for Asia-Pacific, Claire Larsen, and channel technical consultant, Gordon Wood. The changes coincide with a push to broaden the security vendor's presence outside of hardware.

Terry will report directly to the vendor's vice-president for international sales and operations, Richard Turner.

Larsen said Moore's departure and the creation of a new sales director's role had coincided with Turner's decision to cut out its regional VP management layer.

Turner was Asia-Pacific VP before Moore but was shifted into a US-based channel role 18 months ago.

"Richard wanted to be more hands-on with all regions," she said. "The structure was changed so that country managers reported directly to him."

Moore was relegated to the sales director posting but left shortly afterwards to pursue other opportunities, Larsen said.

Terry has a wealth of experience in the industry, most recently as Asia-Pacific managing director for network connectivity provider, iPass. He has also worked for Wang and Motorola.

Larsen also boasts an IT background. She was previously head of marketing for Rockwell FirstPoint Contact in the US.

She said her first responsibility would be to work with channel partners to strengthen their marketing campaigns. RSA was also working on refining its overall strategy to reflect its broader product offerings.

Larsen will work alongside current alliance and channel manager, Chris Wood.

"It is nice for the company that we have a lot of fresh eggs, particularly with software backgrounds," she said. "RSA has been very focused on hardware and we have an issue in the marketplace because people don't realise we also have other [security] products."

Other recent staffing changes at RSA include the exit of technical engineers, Lee Hicken and Andrew Latham. Gordon Wood would replace one of these roles, Larsen said. A second engineer would be announced shortly.
