Enhancing and repackaging its fax software products, Symantec this week announced a version of its voice and fax messaging software aimed at small businesses along with an upgraded version of its WinFax Pro 9.0 fax and messaging software.
The new TalkWorks Pro 2.0 package is aimed at the very small office with five users or less, said Symantec spokeswoman Leslie Hagen. WinFax in comparison is used by larger businesses and workgroups, she said.
TalkWorks Pro 2.0 includes all of the WinFax capabilities such as voicemail with multiple mailboxes, customisable greetings, instant message notification, call tracking, fax-on-demand, and voice/fax/data discrimination, Symantec said.
In addition TalkWorks Pro 2.0 includes full WinFax Pro capabilities, such as the ability to send laser-quality faxes, lets users notify mobile users via a pager or cell phone when a fax arrives and automatically forwards faxes to another fax number or e-mail address, Symantec said.
TalkWorks Pro 2.0 requires a PC built around a Intel Pentium processor running Windows 95, Windows 98 or Windows NT 4.0, 16MB of RAM and a compatible voice/fax modem.
Features new to the WinFax Pro 9.0 include: a send screen to preview and edit messages prior to faxing; a fax-sharing capability designed for small businesses or department workgroup operation; the WinFax Starter Edition for a simple upgrade path; graphics for guiding users through the product; WinFax cellular phone support allowing mobile users to send and receive faxes from a laptop connected to their fax-capable cellular telephone; and a credit card dialling wizard for mobile users.
