Ingram Micro has launched a new service in the US that allows resellers to give end-users an opportunity to trade-in used IT equipment.
Known as Refresh IT, the program is being offered in partnership with a company called Market Velocity. Resellers can also give customers the option of recycling or donating used technology to disadvantaged students, people with disabilities or other community groups via the National Cristina Foundation.
The program covers trade-in deals of less than 50 units for a wide variety of products including PCs, monitors, printers and handhelds.
"One challenge of selling new technology is the expense and hassle of properly disposing of existing IT equipment," Ingram Micro North America vice-president of channel marketing, Justin Crotty, said in a statement. "We are reducing those challenges by engaging with partners such as Market Velocity."
A local spokesperson for Ingram Micro said programs that encouraged responsible asset disposal were on the distributor's agenda but admitted no concrete plans had been formulated yet.
