Via releases security kit for Linux, Windows developers

Via has released a software developer kit aimed at protecting data by ensuring Windows and Linux code writers can tie their security to Via's.

Via Technologies, the Taiwanese chip developer, has released a software developer kit aimed at strengthening data protection by ensuring that writers of Windows and Linux code can tie their security features to the hardware encryption capabilities of Via's C7 and C7-M microprocessors.

The company's Padlock Security Engine is a security program that works in conjunction with the microprocessors to lock intruders out of specific data inside PCs. The program is integrated directly onto the microprocessor itself.

The developer kit includes a series of tools, including source code for both Microsoft Windows and Linux operating systems and numerous sample programs for reference, Via said in a statement. It also provides code that software developers can copy directly into other programs.

The developer kit can be downloaded at the Via Arena Web site: http://www.viaarena.com.
