Resellers have responded in a largely positive manner to the newly announced Good Gear Guide.
DCA Computers manager, Steve Doreen, said the website would provide customers with a valuable source of information. He said he would consider registering his Hobart-based business.
"It's a central source of information where consumers can refer to the people that represent that particular product. It saves them one step," he said. Doreen's only concerns were that some brands might not be represented properly and consumers in Tasmania would have trouble getting some specialist brands from local resellers.
Victorian-based Home Enter-tainment manager, John Bec, said the success of the website would depend on how it was marketed.
"It does look quite interesting because it has a fair bit of product information," he said. "If someone wants to look for something in Melbourne, then it would make it easier to locate a store with that particular product."
Queensland-based Lynx computers salesperson, Daniel Huynh, said the site would provide smaller resellers with an opportunity to let more consumers know they exist.
"It's all a matter of being exposed to the right consumers," he said.
