Alstom goes Online with Citrix


Alstom IT has been appointed as the first local distributor of Citrix Online's range of Web-based remote access, support and online meeting technologies.

The products to be distributed by Alstom include GoToMyPC, which provides users with remote access to their desktop; GoToAssist, which enables users to get a third party to view their PC from a remote location; and GoToMeeting, which allows users to book appointments on a master PC and allow other employees to access it from other locations.

Having carried Citrix products for the past six years, Alstom general manager, Greg Newham, said the Online range would appeal to many of its existing resellers. But it would also look to recruit new dealers with a history of doing business online.

The products would help resellers that wanted to get into a service-orientated market place, according to Newham.

"It is a different style of product to what Citrix has sold in the past," he said. "It's a virtual complementary product line that can be arranged over the phone."

Reseller incentives include product sales training and the opportunity to gain additional margins.

The appointment of Alstom was an attempt to take advantage of the broader Citrix channel and distributor network, according to Citrix Online Pacific managing director, HR Shiever.

Previously, the online division, which was set up in March 2004, had sold direct.

"We felt it was time to appoint a distributor to start getting the channel system up and running," Shiever said.
