Packeteer is looking to give its managed services channel a major lift with the appointment of its its first territory manager for technical business development.
Robert Rawsthorne said his initial task would be to boost the number of resellers currently compiling managed services with the vendor's traffic management products. This would include targeting systems integrators, as well as service providers and carriers currently involved in providing managed services.
"We are in the early stages where managed services are still new," he said. "We see the market growing dramatically. This is being driven by end-users, as the number of devices on the network expands. My role is to support this already evolving market."
Packeteer has also introduced a new specialist certification and will add another certification across its central management range of products early next year. This will be targeted specifically at managed service providers.
"The key component our partners are not focusing on is central management - our PolicyCenter and ReportCenter," Rawsthorne said. "These are integral to delivering a managed service."
Rawsthorne's resume include stints with Telstra and Comindico covering managed services and system architecture. His most recent role was NSW capacity planning manager at Unisys.
