Avnet Partner Solutions has recruited a raft of new staff including business development managers, account managers and technical sales specialists. It has also added two new business unit executives - one for IBM, the other for HP/Oracle - to help further grow its business with these vendors.
Managing director, Colin McKenna, said the distributor would be recruiting more staff to provide specialised services for its partners, particularly with regard to IBM's Unix storage platform and complex Intel solutions such as blade technologies. Avnet has also employed more product management staff.
"We want to engage with vendors more effectively and build growth strategies in the market," McKenna said. "We see good opportunities for growth with IBM, HP and Oracle, predominantly in the mid-market."
He said this recruitment drive was partially due to IBM's review of its current distribution line-up, which saw Big Blue asking wholesale partners to select a product specialisation.
"It is certainly related but we would have made the changes anyway," McKenna said.
"We believe this will strengthen our capabilities with IBM software."
Avnet is also in the process of establishing a new sales office in WA that will open in November.
"Business has been growing consistently there for the past couple of years and we found that we needed to support our partners with a local branch," he said.
The company is also about to launch its Avnet Ready storefront within a week. The e-commerce Web portal will offer resellers quick access to its hardware, storage software and network bundling solutions.
The company will giveaway petrol vouchers as an incentive for resellers to login and use the site.
