IDS-G looks for new storage markets

Brisbane-based data storage distributor, IDS-G, has opened an office in Auckland as part of expansion plans. It will add another in Melbourne next month to service the Victorian and South Australian markets. Both will be staffed with a business development manager and engineer to complement the company's Sydney office, which opened in February.

Buoyed by a number of big-ticket deals, the company has recorded significant growth recently and had seen its partner numbers double in the past few months. Entering the New Zealand market would help continue this growth curve, according to managing director, Stephen Robins.

"Most of our suppliers have said they require a presence in New Zealand," he said. "The market is very similar to Queensland in terms of size, business types and behaviour."

The Melbourne move was in line with the company's national expansion plans, Robins said. A Perth office is also on its agenda. "The Melbourne market is more loyal to its vendors," he said. "But our value-added distribution approach is what has gotten us this far so we think it will work there too."

IDS-G recently signed with a couple of new vendor partners, Copan and DataChorus.

Copan would provide access to large-capacity, disk-based data archiving products, while DataChorus expanded its range of NAS solutions. IDS-G would demonstrate Copan products at a product roadshow around Australia and NZ during October, Robins said.
