New direction sees QMS look to channel

Local developer, QM Software (QMS), is on the hunt for partners following its move into the data backup and management market.

The company has just launched its first data product, ReplicaBackup, following a deal with US vendor, InterSystems, for use of its post-relational database technology.

While the deal will also see QMS gain access to InterSystems' channel across 20 countries, the independent software vendor was keen to build up a local channel of its own, according to CEO, Mike Malone. "ReplicaBackup is scalable from one user up to a very large organisation," he said. "It's something that any company anywhere in the world could use."

The development of a broad-based offering through the channel would be a change for the company.

Previously, it has sold niche offerings direct to end-users - ABC Spelling for the education market and QuoteMaster for the freight industry.

In order to attract up to 50 new partners over the next year, QMS would offer training, support and the potential of recurring revenue, Malone said.

"ReplicaBackup is sold on a subscription basis so that lets partners set up a regular income stream," he said.

"As partners are looking after a customer's data, it also helps builds loyalty."

Network support companies would be the primary target of the recruitment drive, Malone said.

"They have the ear of the client and can evaluate the product," he said.

"Hardware suppliers are almost as good."
