Newlease CEO aims for hosted software growth

Microsoft licensing provider, NewLease, has appointed its first CEO to boost take-up of its hosted software business model.

Former general manager of networking integrator NetStar, Mike Clarke, took up the newly created position last month. His resume also includes stints with 3Com and Lotus.

Clarke's will initially tailor NewLease's overarching partner program to suit a gamut of managed services providers, traditional resellers, IT rental companies and ISVs. While the company had already signed up several players, including Destra, it was keen to accelerate this to incorporate a broader base, he said. "While we will be after 1000s of partners over time, we don't want to just sign them up on paper," he said. "We have to make sure that we have the right program in place for each reseller."

Melbourne-based NewLease was appointed as Microsoft's first reseller of its Service Provider Licensing Agreement (SPLA) in February. The agreement covers the majority of Microsoft's application range for both desktop and server products.

Clarke said its hosted software as a service offering was particularly applicable to the SME market concerned with the cost of obtaining and maintaining software licensing.

It also gave resellers the opportunity to secure a recurring monthly revenue stream, he said.

NewLease was also planning to bring on other non-competing software products to sit alongside the Microsoft range in the coming months.

To help fuel its partner push, the company is also setting up a second office in Sydney.

Clarke said he hoped to have six staff situated at the premises within 12 months.

The company would also look to establish premises in other states, he said.
