Powermove gets Xtreme with iPod

Accessories distributor, Powermove, has signed on as the first wholesaler for US iPod accessories vendor, Xtreme Mac.

Managing director, John Osmotherly, claimed the new contract would see it carry some of the first accessories available for the iPod nano.

Xtreme Mac produces more than 35 iPod-related products ranging from car chargers, gloves and protective covers to sports accessories and speaker systems. It also announced 17 new pieces this month specifically for the nano, including its flagship product, the Airplay 2 FM Transmitter. The product retails for $99.95, or $139.95 with a charger.

Osmotherly said the distributor anticipated the range would be a significant money-spinner over the Christmas period. It was already in talks with Myer to take up the products.

Powermove owner, Phillip Warren, said the Griffin iTrip FM transmitter, a similar product designed for the original iPod, sold 80,000 units last financial year.

Osmotherly claimed Myer had sold about 15,000 of these during the Christmas period alone.

"It wouldn't surprise me if we could do 80,000 [Airplay sales] in a year," he said.

The first batch of Xtreme Mac products, including car chargers and covers, is available to resellers, with the Airplay 2 expected to be in stock by November 3.

Osmotherly said he was now working on developing a series of cross promotions to help resellers boost margins in the run-up to Christmas.

"Resellers don't make much on the iPods; the money is in accessories," he said. "And the statistics show there are two accessories for every iPod sold."

Alongside the new series, Powermove has received it first shipment of the Gecko nano guard. The distributor also carries accessories from Griffin and DLO.
