Firewall goes wireless

Firewall Systems has taken its first steps into wireless security through new distribution deals with AirMagnet and Bluesocket.

Marketing director, Nick Verykios, said the two product ranges would allow resellers to tackle intrusion detection protection both from an infrastructure and user level. They were also the first wireless products to be added to its arsenal.

Both vendors, which uphold completely indirect sales models, were previously distributed in Australia by wireless specialty distributor, Integrity Data Systems.

Bluesocket territory manager, Carlos Gomez Gallego, said the new deal would see Firewall become its main distributor. Bluesocket produces wireless LAN security hardware, including network controllers with its own intrusion detection technology.

"We'll still be working with Integrity for the time being," he said. "But we want to lead with Firewall. They are a security company, while Integrity is focused on outdoor wireless technology. We are aiming at indoor, corporate LANs."

AirMagnet country manager, Cameron Eisdale, said Firewall would also be acting as its master distributor for its complete product range. The vendor produces wireless infrastructure software solutions.

Eisdale said it would also leverage Firewall's existing portfolio of training and accreditation programs to help boost up the number of resellers certified in its product set.

While there was a big opportunity to sell the products to resellers working with wireless environments, strong growth would come from corporate networks trying to keep wireless technology out of their organisation, he said.

"We are now seeing growth with customers that don't have wireless," Eisdale said. "They use us to enforce their 'no wireless' policies."

Gallago agreed, claiming the wireless market had matured to a point where there was broad take-up and awareness. As a result, all organisations had to be aware of the risks it posed - not just those employing wireless technologies, he said.

Verykios said there were no specific plans to bundle multi-vendor products together for resellers. However, the two new product lines would sit on top of and validate its other vendor offerings. Firewall would also deliver training for both companies.
