New NetComm DSLAMs deliver high speed Internet to guest rooms via existing cabling

 • 11 October, 2005 12:33

NetComm, a leading Australian provider of communications products and solutions, has introduced a new range of Internet Protocol Digital Subscriber Line Access Multiplexers (IP DSLAMs) to meet the demand generated by the growing trend to pre-wire buildings to enable the delivery of high speed broadband Internet access.

An IP DSLAM is a device installed in the basement of a multi-dwelling structure, office or commercial building to allow simple, cheap distribution of high-speed Internet services to the entire building using the existing phone line infrastructure. Cabling in new buildings can be rationalised at the planning stage, and even in existing structures there is no need to incur the cost of rewiring every floor of the building. Also, voice and data can be carried on the same network without disrupting normal telephone services.

“The rapidly growing demand for broadband services is driving changes in the way that real estate and construction companies are planning the infrastructure for commercial and residential developments,” said David Stewart, Managing Director of NetComm.

“The rapid growth of broadband connections for homes and businesses has created high expectations among buyers and tenants of having ‘always on’ access to a high-speed Internet connection,” said David Stewart, Managing Director of NetComm. “An IP DSLAM allows the developers and managers of multi-dwelling buildings, offices and commercial developments to provide this service via their existing infrastructure at low cost, while increasing their appeal to buyers and renters,” he said.

NetComm IP DSLAMs are available in two models – the micro version (NCT-1020) supporting up to 72 ports and a mini version (NCT-1000) that supports up to 288 ports.

“NetComm is already a leader in DSL modems and routers, which are the tail-end equipment for Internet connectivity. Now we have developed and launched these new IP DSLAMs to serve the other end of the solution, giving us the total product mix to provide to our customers. Not only do these products enable services which are a very big selling point for property developers, they also open the door for other broadband services linked to high-speed Internet – such as Voice over IP telephony and dedicated IPTV services,” said David Stewart.

It is also possible to install the IP DSLAM into an existing building without a major retro-fit as the Internet services are delivered using the phone lines which in most cases are already installed, opening up new possibilities for building managers to attract tenants.

The NCT-1020 and NCT-1000 are available now through NetComm. Call 9424-2070 or go to for more information.
