Small and Medium Business Customers Benefit from Enterprise Class Features With New Low Cost Tape Automation Solutions

Sydney, Australia – September 28, 2005 -- Exabyte Corporation (OTCBB: EXBT), an innovator in tape backup, restore and archival systems, and LAN Systems Pty Ltd, a subsidiary of the multi-national Westcon Group, Inc., today announced an agreement that will see Australian Small to Medium Business (SMB) users being offered the most cost effective tape automation and single drive data protection devices.

LAN Systems will now offer the entire range of Exabyte tape and automation product developed by the company over the last 20 years, to its SMB customer base. Products include tape drives, including LTO and Exabyte’s own VXA packet drives, Autoloader and Library products for data protection automation.

“LAN Systems chose Exabyte for its exciting tape product range that perfectly complements our storage products from EMC, which includes their market leading hardware, data management software (from Legato and Dantz) and services,” said Wendy O’Keeffe , general manager LAN Systems. ”As IDC pointed out recently, Exabyte are growing faster than any other tape company in automation and low end tape, and we see a perfect fit for them in SMB applications that need either a Disk to Tape strategy for simple backup or archiving data, or for a Disk to Disk to Tape solution for fast restore/archiving, all at a lower price point.”

“Tape back-up is an integral component of an organisations ability to protect their data from loss. The challenges of effective data protection are felt across all businesses (irrespective of their size) as the explosion in IT data continues. Tape offers a cost effective means for longer term archiving of data, by offering off-site storage. The portability of tape helps organisations protect their valuable data against theft, fire and natural disasters.”

Exabyte attributes the products’ success in the SMB and departmental markets to designs that specifically meet the capacity, performance, and budget needs of small-and-medium businesses at a new lower price point. According to recent research by IDC, it is the SMB market that is at greatest risk from data loss and they simply have not been able to afford the required product in the past.

IDC’s April 2005 report on low end automation shows Exabyte as the only company that reported any substantial growth from 2003 to 2004. In this report, IDC explain that Exabyte grew market share from 5% in 2003 to 18% in 2004. IDC’s automation white paper also discusses the emerging needs of SMB in data protection and how they are best served by Exabyte.

“We welcome LAN Systems onboard and look forward to a long partnership,” said Richard Giddey, Exabyte country manager ANZ. ”Between us we are committed to offering the emerging Australian SMB market well priced and innovative tape and tape automation solutions offering enterprise class product at an affordable price. With LAN Systems outstanding record with their customers we are sure we will make a big impact on this market.”
