‘Unique’ cabling delivers futuristic comms at The Waterfront

 • 28 September, 2005 10:49

When Fredon Industries designed a futuristic communications setup for The
Waterfront apartment complex at Homebush Bay, Sydney, they realised that a
single cabling system would make installation easier, more effective and

The cable had to deliver digital and analogue telephony, high speed Internet, digital free-to-air and/or pay TV, video-on-demand and security to 3,000 apartments. Fredon found only one product with this capability, according to Stuart Malmgron, the company’s Data & Communications Manager. Siemon’s TERA 10G Cat 7 is an end-to-end shielded cable that delivers dissimilar services in a single cable sheath without disrupting any of the services.

At The Waterfront, each pair in TERA’ high performing twisted-pair copper solution is delivering up to 1.2GHz of bandwidth twice that of Category 7/ Class F specifications. This extra bandwidth is critical for demanding applications like IP-based video on demand, high speed data and voice applications, which can be supported simultaneously using a single 4-pair fully shielded (S/FTP) cable.

“TERA is unique”, says Malmgron.
