Alcatel announces executive appointment in Asia Pacific region

<p>Sydney, September 27, 2005 — Alcatel (Paris: CGEP.PA and NYSE: ALA) today that Hilary Mine, currently Senior Vice President of Marketing, Communications and Channel Management, North America, has been appointed CEO for Alcatel in the Australasia region, effective October 1. Ms Mine replaces Andrew Young who has held the role since January 2004, and who has decided to leave Alcatel.</p>
<p>Mine will lead Alcatel’s business in Australia, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea and is relocating to Sydney from Plano, USA to take up her new role.</p>
<p>Christian Reinaudo, President of Alcatel’s Asia Pacific activities, said “Hilary will bring a wealth of senior management experience in telecommunications into her new role. Her experience and knowledge, particularly in expanding areas including converged services, triple play and IP telephony will be invaluable in leading the company to success in what is currently a highly dynamic and evolving industry. We are very excited to have her join the team.”</p>
<p>Ms. Mine joined Alcatel in 2002 as Senior Vice President, Marketing and Communications, Channel Management, North America. Prior to joining Alcatel, Ms. Mine was executive vice president of Probe Research, Inc., a research company specialising in telecommunications, IP and wireless. She was previously program manager for the Engineering Systems Research Center of U.C. Berkeley and an analyst with the Berkeley Roundtable on the International Economy (BRIE). Mine received her B.A. in Economics from Reed College, and her M.B.A. from San Francisco State University.</p>
