Intel appoints co-manager of enterprise group

Thomas Kilroy has been appointed co-general manager of Intel's Digital Enterprise Group.

Intel has appointed a senior sales executive as co-general manager of its Digital Enterprise Group. Thomas Kilroy, will now share responsibility for the company's enterprise products with senior vice president Pat Gelsinger, who had previously held sole management responsibility for the division.

In his 15 years at Intel, Kilroy had previously served as co-president of Intel Americas and had held management positions in the company's Sales and Marketing and Reseller Channel organizations, Intel said in a statement released Thursday.

The Digital Enterprise Group develops products for business customers, including desktop PCs, low-end Xeon servers, high-end Itanium servers, storage equipment, and networking devices, among other things.

Thursday's appointment fills a post left vacant since the May departure of Abhi Talwalkar, who formerly co-managed the group with Gelsinger. Talwalkar left after a year at this job to become president and chief executive officer of LSI Logic.

Kilroy's new title is corporate vice president and co-general manager of the Digital Enterprise Group, Intel said.

The company's enterprise business has struggled over the past few years, having fallen behind rival Advanced Micro Devices at the low end of the server market, while struggling to get traction with its Itanium processor at the high end.
