Amcom snares Arachnet for $1.6 million

Amcom Telecommunications has acquired Perth-based ISP, Arachnet, for $1.6 million.

The deal adds another 7500 customers to its Amnet broadband division, including more than 5000 DSL customers. The company also recently acquired another ISP, Perth Internet.

Amcom general manager, Loula Papandreou, said more than 60 per cent of Arachnet's DSL broadband customers were located within Amcom-enabled exchanges. Its premium service offers 'Up to 8Mbps ADSL' that is 32 times faster than standard broadband. It will soon release ADSL2+ products.

The company currently has a network established in WA that covers 15 exchanges across the metropolitan area. A further 15 are planned around WA, NT and SA by the end of the financial year.

The company also intends to expand throughout the rest of Australia.

"We are continually expanding and we are employing new staff in all areas," Papandreou said.
