Brightpoint hopes its new appointment as distributor of Telstra's broadband wireless products will remain an exclusive one.
The wholesaler has been appointed as the first local supplier of Bigpond consumer wireless hardware, including wireless broadband modems and remote access cards.
Bigpond spokesperson, Craig Middleton, said he could not comment on its choice of distributors. However, BrightPoint's manager of product marketing, Ettore Alterisio, said he was looking to keep the sole distributorship indefinitely.
The Bigpond products were an ideal fit with its current range of wireless voice and data products, he said.
"With the wireless broadband market growing rapidly and the increasing need for roaming high speed wireless solutions, the Bigpond products provide an exceptional offering to the reseller channel, and a strong addition to the Brightpoint product offering," he said.
The products will be initially pushed through a target list of authorised retailers and resellers.
The two companies had also devised an Authorised Dealer program for the product range and were on the hunt to identify and recruit additional partners, Alterisio said. The program includes marketing support, training and where possible, sales-based incentives.
"The wireless broadband market offers the reseller channel very healthy margins to drive their business," he said.
Brightpoint currently provides a number of key partners, such as iPrimus and several industry service providers, with third party logistics support. It also distributes wireless broadband products and services for 3, Sierra Wireless and Novatel.
Alterisio said its main focus for the year was to continue to grow and develop its existing broadband wireless relationships.
