Newly appointed storage business manager, Robin Johnson, is planning to boost Sun's channel resources in an attempt to make more of the vendor's capabilities.
He rejoins Sun after a brief stint at Red Hat and replaces Dan Kieran, who has moved into a newly created practice manager role for storage and data management client solutions.
Johnson said he intended to follow a new storage growth strategy based on content, consolidation, continuity and compliance.
"I want to increase the focus on information life cycle management in the channel," he said.
He also said he would look to increase reseller numbers by recruiting partners with storage expertise in particular verticals. Knowledge of compliance, security and audit solutions would be a prerequisite.
Getting a feel for existing channel programs was the immediate priority, according to Johnson, but he had already identified a need to scale up its Storage Elite Program because Frontline was currently the only member.
Good channel opportunities could be found in government, education, finance, manufacturing and healthcare, he said.
"Content management, accessibility to images and data access are important in the mission critical medical environment," Johnson said.
