Infonetics Research finds Mitel edges out key IP Telephony Rivals in Q2 2005

 • 02 September, 2005 11:50

Sydney, 1st September 2005 – Mitel®, a leading provider of IP communications solutions, for small and medium businesses and distributed enterprises, today announced that an industry research report released by Infonetics Research Inc. confirms the company’s growing market momentum.

“Out of all the incumbent players, Mitel has been at the forefront of the TDM to IP transition,” said Matthias Machowinski, directing analyst with Infonetics. “Many hybrid PBX vendors are still extensively relying on TDM technologies, and there are certainly valid reasons for doing so. The speed at which Mitel has moved from TDM to an IP architecture has reached all the way down to the user, which is why we see them ahead of much larger competitors. In the end, customers are the real winners, as they’ll be able to take advantage of all the capabilities IP has to offer.”

Gwilym Funnell, Mitel Australia Country Manager commented, “Mitel offers businesses of any size an easy migration path to IP Telephony. Our ability to integrate Microsoft applications with traditional TDM technologies and the latest IP communications solutions makes Mitel an easy choice.”

According to the recently published "Enterprise Telephony, Quarterly worldwide market share and forecasts for 2Q05", Infonetics places Mitel second worldwide in IP lines shipped on hybrid PBXs in the second quarter 2005 behind Alcatel with 21 percent. Mitel maintains its lead over Avaya and supplanted Nortel in the quarter. Mitel’s market share of IP lines shipped on hybrid PBXs increased two percentage points over the same period last year. In a study of North American organizations using IP voice, Infonetics found that that hybrid PBXs, already the most common equipment type used to provide voice services at respondent headquarter sites, will be the future platform of choice, used by 38 percent of respondents by January 2007 (up from 30 percent today).

“This is further independent validation that Mitel has completed its transformation from a traditional PBX business to one where now fewer than 10 percent of platforms we ship are TDM,” said Don Smith, Chief Executive Officer, Mitel. “We are bringing it all together with an award-winning portfolio of solutions, strong and deepening industry partnerships, and an unmatched focus to bring the value of IP Communications to business users worldwide.”

Building on a foundation of 30-years success in enterprise communications, Mitel's broad portfolio of IP communications solutions provides advanced voice, video and data communications platforms, desktop phones and Internet appliances, intuitive applications for customer relationship management and mobility, messaging and multimedia collaboration over a single broadband network. These new IP-based communications platforms are designed to allow customers of all sizes to seamlessly implement and/or migrate, in an evolutionary manner, without sacrificing any of the features or functionality of traditional Private Branch Exchange and Key Telephone Systems. Through best-in-class strategic relationships Mitel can offer businesses the choice and flexibility of an end-to-end converged Local Area Network or seamless interoperability with any existing infrastructure.
