Senetas Launches Smartcard Password Management System to Simplify the Pain of Password Administration and Secure Access

<p>SYDNEY, NSW – Tuesday, 30 August 2005 – Senetas Corporation Ltd (ASX:SEN) has launched a Single Sign-On (SSO) password management and authentication solution to assist enterprises struggling to manage multiple password IT environments. Developed by US company SafeNet, Inc. (NASDAQ: SFNT) an exclusive technology partner to Senetas in Australia and New Zealand, SafeNet Axis 5.1 is based on familiar smartcard and USB token methodology and provides a convenient means for legitimate users to quickly gain access to relevant applications.
The product reduces time and resources spent by IT helpdesks administering passwords and resolving user access issues. It also enables organisations to enforce stronger access control across their operations and simplify the user experience.
SafeNet Axis 5.1 is a Single Sign-On (SSO) and strong authentication product using smartcard or USB token technology that simplifies the end-user experience by serving as an “ATM card” for usernames and passwords when logging into computer systems, applications and networks. It securely stores all usernames and passwords and automates logons to a multitude of applications while the user activates the facility by entering one password or PIN number.

Supported by SafeNet Axis Management Centre, SafeNet Axis 5.1 provides a centralised administration point with which to set things up. The main sections are the Configuration Manager, Token Manager, Policy Manager and Client Builder.
The Configuration Manager is primarily concerned with the management of certificates, while the Token Manager administers the various parameters such as password length, token time-out and maximum number of allowable failed login attempts.
The Policy Manager is where organisations train SafeNet Axis to work with particular applications, through a simple and familiar “drag ‘n’ drop” manner. If the application or process in question likes to prompt periodically for a password change, SafeNet Axis can automatically and randomly generate new passwords, such as those stored on the smartcard or USB token for subsequent use. The user need not even concern themselves as to what the password actually is.
Having set up the applications in this way, the Client Builder enables the creation of a client installation file which can be distributed to the end users. Each user can then enrol their credentials into their own smartcard or USB token before using the system.
As a result, IT administrators can quickly implement strong access control throughout the enterprise without major infrastructure change or end user training. Based on patent-pending Rapid Deploy™ technology, SafeNet Axis is easy to implement and can be fully deployed within hours.
SafeNet Axis also has a recovery feature which, in the event of a lost or damaged smartcard or USB token, enables a new token to be quickly configured with the appropriate information. It also enables a temporary login without an end user device. Users can configure their own favourite applications, including web-based applications, for single sign-on if they wish.
