Looking to ramp up promotional efforts, Multimedia Technology will stage its first Expo in Victoria next month.
Marketing manager, Cameron McIver, said the distributor had been talking about launching an event of this scale for several years.
"It is long overdue, but we feel we're in a great position to put this on without any problems," he said. "We now have the resources to allow a few of us to make this happen."
Previously, the distributor had focused marketing efforts on smaller promotions via email, catalogues and the Web, he said.
The Expo - to be held at The Manningham Club and Convention Centre in Bulleen on August 25 - will feature trade stands from 15 of its leading vendors. These include BenQ, Sony, Linksys, Panasonic, Verbatim, Lexmark, XFX, Shuttle, Shintaro, Mitsubishi, Pioneer and Olympus.
Alongside the exhibition, resellers would be able to participate in hourly informal presentations from each of its vendor partners on their latest products, McIver said. The distributor was also planning to give away several door prizes, including a 42-inch plasma screen. McIver said MMT expected 1000 people to attend and had received 300 RSVPs in its first week.
While resellers are the core focus, MMT is also encouraging partners to bring along end-users. Attendees can register at www.mmt.com.au/online.
Although this year's show would be restricted to Victoria, McIver said it hoped to take the Expo to its Sydney and Brisbane resellers next year.
MMT has recently relocated its Brisbane office to larger premises in Herston. The new site will be manned by four staff.
McIver said the company expected to hire additional staff later in the year.
"There is no warehousing at this stage but we may introduce it in future," he said. "The new building has these facilities."
