HP offers free recycling for businesses in Europe

HP is offering free IT hardware recycling to businesses in Europe, putting it in line with new European Union legislation.

HP has introduced a free recycling service for business customers across much of Europe.

Customers can return IT hardware to a collection point for treatment in accordance with the European Union's new Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) directive, HP said.

The directive makes vendors responsible for taking back and recycling electrical equipment.

Businesses can arrange transport of the equipment themselves or negotiate fees with HP's recycling contractors. The recycling itself is free. HP already offered a similar service but it carried restrictions over the volume and type of products that could be returned.

Some countries missed the August 13 deadline for implementing the new WEEE laws, but HP is introducing its service across Europe now.

It was available in the EU countries along with Switzerland and Norway, HP said.

HP was also arranging collection schemes for consumers in Europe, it said.
