• 09 August, 2005 12:08

MessageLabs, the leading provider of messaging security and management services to businesses, today announced that it has strengthened its Asia Pacific management team with the appointment of James Scollay as Vice President of Asia Pacific, effective 1 August 2005.

Based in Sydney, James is focused on managing the company’s Asia Pacific operations; assessing market trends and requirements within the region; as well as creating and maintaining new partner alliances and customer relationships.

With three offices and four data centres throughout Asia Pacific, MessageLabs scans millions of emails each day on behalf of clients such as ABN Amro, QBE Insurance, Harvey World Travel, Thiess, Interpharma, Daiwa Securities Hong Kong, Credit Lyonnais Securities Asia and Mandarin Oriental Hotels. Over 90 per cent of business in the region is done via an indirect sales channel through key channel partners including Dimension Data, IBM, Unisys and MCI, as well as a network of smaller partners.

“Our Asia Pacific business continues to grow rapidly and take on increased importance in MessageLabs’ global strategy; and as such we continue to invest in the region,” said Ben White, CEO of MessageLabs. “James is an experienced leader and has a strong understanding of the cultural and business environments in Asia Pacific, as a result of his New Zealand background. I have no doubt that he will lead our Asia Pacific team to greater success and growth over the coming years.”

Prior to joining the Asia Pacific team, James spent several years in key management roles in MessageLabs’ European offices, first leading the partner team in Europe and then as Vice President of Sales for MessageLabs in EMEA. He brings strong experience in both direct and indirect sales, as well as expertise in many areas of the company that will further strengthen the Asia Pacific business.

"There is a huge amount of untapped potential with businesses in Asia Pacific as they continue to face increasing challenges and threats associated with doing business online,” said James Scollay, vice president, Asia Pacific. “More and more businesses are now realising the benefits and importance of managing their email security outside corporate networks at the Internet level. I look forward to working with our customers and partners in Asia Pacific to ensure that MessageLabs is their managed security partner of choice.”

Prior to joining MessageLabs, James headed up a key partner team for UK software company QAS, after relocating from New Zealand. Before that, he was a founding partner and director of a New Zealand based telecommunications systems integrator, Commspec.
