Red Hat pushes its partner community

Linux software vendor, Red Hat has officially launched its local partner program, with the introduction of a new hosting offering as well as its ninth Australian partner.

Red Hat director of partners and alliances, Sandeep Chandiramani, said the hosting program was designed for partners managing Linux-based servers for customers.

“It’s an easy way for customers to migrate from their existing technology to an Enterprise Linux platform,” he said. “The knowledge to manage a Linux system will be brought in by our partners.”

Chandiramani said Red Hat was confident it would sign up a hosting partner in the coming months.

“We’ve brought the program to Australia because we had companies approach us looking for a managed service," he said. "We discussed it with them. We will see more companies who weren’t using Linux use us to move across.”

Current US partners under the hosting program include Rackspace, EV1 and Planet Internet.

Red Hat now offers eight programs under its partner community scheme, ranging from global distribution, to hardware and software programs. All have access to Red Hat sales and technical training, and marketing material as well as product.

Chandiramani said Red Hat’s channel strategy was to deliver value to a select group of partners across the country.

“We didn’t want to sign up hundreds of partners," he said. "You don’t get the depth with that."

The vendor nowhas nine partners under its general business program across Australia. They include Volante, Astute Systems, Attain IT and MAX-SI.

Its newest recruit is Victorian-based business software company, Blue Connections, which signed up in July.

“They [Blue Connections] were putting their business through Ingram Micro," Chandiramani said. "We were looking for a key partner in Victoria, so it made sense to approach them. This got us the partner we were looking for in the Victorian market.”

Alongside its partners, Red Hat also maintains a sole distribution agreement with Ingram Micro.

Chandiramani said the vendor was happy to retain one distributor for now.

“We’ve had 100 per cent sales growth figures quarter on quarter through Ingram Micro since signing up with the distributor in October,” he said.
