HP has co-founded a Victorian Government recycling project aimed at the home PC user.
It would provide valuable feedback on consumer recycling habits, according to HP environmental manager for the South Pacific, Annukka Sairanen.
"We need to promote shared responsibility for waste with consumers," she said.
The 12-month pilot uses Boroondara Waste Transfer Station in Camberwell as a collection point. The free service covers PCs, monitors, scanners, keyboards and printers.
EcoRecycle Victoria said the scheme wanted to avoid landfill of toxic material but the recycling process was an international effort. It involved the disassembly of components which are then processed by specialist organisations, serveral of which are overseas.
