SoftGen looks to Unify product line

SoftGen has been appointed as master distributor for business process software producer, Unify. The announcement follows the vendor's decision to close its regional office.

The value-added distributor takes over responsibility for the existing Unify reseller channel and its installed base of 20 end-users.

SoftGen would take a hands-on approach to account management and look to cross-sell products from other vendors in its stable, national distribution and alliances manager, Malcolm Pooley, said. They would include Borland, eTrack, getbusi, Filesphere and Recursion Software.

The desire to find a complementary development environment for its primary vendor, Borland, had been a major reason for the deal, Pooley said.

Some Borland resellers already use the Unify database. The vendor's range also included the .Net-based NavRisk, Pooley said, which extended the capabilities of SoftGen's J2EE developed Tickit risk management application.

The Unify NXJ application would also take SoftGen into the growing enterprise-level business process management (BPM) market where it could leverage off its strong J2EE expertise, he said.

Unify director of sales, Stephen Fallon, said he would shortly return to its US head office. He said self-service BPM functionality was particularly suited to Australian sectors experiencing deregulation, where template driven development allowed rapid deployment. He cited energy, finance and mobile providers as good fits.
